Why am I getting an "URL looks invalid" error?

When you add or edit a URL, you may see an error message that the "URL looks invalid". Why's is that?

Superdense applies so-called validation rules on URLs to make sure it passes the requirements of having a correct format and a public DNS record. Because only then we should be able to fetch the favicon automatically.

However, there may be situations where you would like to add a link with a domain name from a private DNS or simply one that works for you, but doesn't work for anyone else including us. For example, the internal name of your NAS, media server or private cloud.

Here's how to deal with that:

1. Enter your URL

2. When you see the "URL looks invalid" error, click Add anyway.

3. The link will be added, but without a favicon, showing an ? icon instead.

4. Click-and-hold the link to upload a custom icon.
